Original Warner Brothers Window Card for Elia Kazan’s dramatic masterpiece, EAST OF EDEN (1955) starring Julie Harris, James Dean, Raymond Massey, Richard Davalos, and Jo Van Fleet. This was James Dean’s screen debut as the neurotic and troubled twin son of the Bible-reading lettuce farmer Massey. His performance was so riveting that he was nominated for Best Actor, the first posthumous acting nomination in Academy Award history as Dean had been killed in an automobile accident in September 1955 at the age of twenty-four. Other Academy nominations included Best Director for Kazan, Best Screenplay for Paul Osborn’s adaptation of the popular John Steinbeck novel. Jo Van Fleet was nominated for and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as the outcast mother of the twin brothers who becomes a successful madam in Monterey.
